LEGACY Supply Chain Services & Adelante SCM Partner on 2018 Industry Study on Inventory Management as Critical Function within Omni-Channel Logistics

RENO, NV, September 17, 2018 – LEGACY Supply Chain Services, a leading provider of value-added third-party logistics solutions in North America, and Adelante SCM, a peer-to-peer learning and research community for supply chain professionals, have released findings from their 2018 research study on inventory management trends within omni-channel logistics. Research was conducted in June 2018, compiling input from nearly 100 supply chain professionals in retail, manufacturing, & logistics service provider sectors in the US & Canada.

The research provides key insights into current inventory management challenges & best practices, along with traits of leading companies participating in omni-channel logistics today. LEGACY and Adelante will release a series of multi-channel thought leadership content pieces over the coming months that expand on the findings from their research.

“We talk with customers every day on how to drive cost-to-serve across their varied distribution channels,” said Mike Glodziak, President & CEO of LEGACY. “We partnered with Adrian Gonzalez at Adelante to get a pulse on challenges other companies are facing today and look at how business leaders are excelling in the world of omni-channel logistics. Those businesses and service providers who understand the ins and out of inventory management and supply chain operations are the ones leading the charge in omni.”

The study concludes that 2 out of every 3 businesses surveyed rate as average or below performers when it comes to omni-channel inventory management. Key reasons cited include poor inventory visibility across supply chain segments and lack of diligence in using key inventory metrics to manage performance.

”It is clear from the research that success in omni-channel fulfillment is dependent on having strong inventory visibility and optimization capabilities,” said Adrian Gonzalez, President of Adelante SCM. “It is also clear, however, that many companies are falling short in this area. Looking at what separates the leaders from the laggards provides some insight on how companies can move up the maturity curve. Overall, companies that are leading the way have more real-time visibility to inventory across their supply chain; they have a more detailed understanding of inventory costs; and they predominantly use integrated distribution centers to fulfill both e-commerce and traditional orders.”
