Supply Chain and Logistics FAQs

Warehousing and Fulfillment

What is your approach to warehouse security?

We use controlled access, on-site security personnel, and 24/7 CCTV to protect every facility. Our warehouses follow strict security procedures, documented audits, and digital tracking to safeguard inventory from the moment it enters the building to the moment it leaves.

How do you manage seasonal spikes in demand?
We manage seasonal spikes through early forecasting and a flexible network we can scale quickly. Our team adjusts labor, space, and transportation in advance, and we position inventory where it can move fastest. This hands-on control keeps operations steady through peak season.
Can your services scale with my growing business?
Yes. Our warehousing, fulfillment, and transportation capacity can scale as your volume grows. We add space, labor, and carrier capacity as needed, and we design your network so it can expand without slowing down daily operations.
Is my company too small for Legacy’s fulfillment services?
As a mid-sized third-party logistics provider, we’re capable of working with small businesses and enterprise-scale operations alike. We right-size our service using a dedicated team of supervisors, account managers and customer service representatives, who are all responsible for providing you with individual attention and support.
Where are your fulfillment centers located?

Our U.S. and Canadian network includes dozens of fulfillment centers located near major transportation hubs. With facilities on both coasts and throughout the interior, we maintain two-day ground coverage for roughly 95% of the U.S. population. A full, up-to-date list is available on our locations page.

What is pick and pack order fulfillment?
Pick and pack, also called pick, pack, ship, is a warehouse process in which items are selected, packaged, and prepared for delivery directly from the facility. Unlike traditional models that route orders through separate distribution centers, this method shortens the path from order creation to shipment.
How can my business benefit from Legacy’s pick and pack services?

Pick and pack performance improves when technology, standardized workflows, and skilled operators work together. We tailor the process to your order patterns and product profile, which helps improve accuracy and speed up fulfillment. In some cases, cobots can be deployed to increase accuracy and speed.

What is the most efficient pick and pack method?
Different methods perform best in different environments. Batch picking works well for high-volume SKU overlap, while zone picking helps when product lines or storage areas are more segmented. We evaluate your order mix and design the approach that moves your inventory the fastest with the least labor.
Are there different pick and pack fulfillment methods?
The most popular include piece picking, batch picking, wave picking and zone picking. Legacy supports all of these picking methods, as well as custom picking for clients who have unique picking requirements.
What quality control processes do you have in place?
Our rigorous quality control processes include documented checkpoints for inbound receiving, putaway, picking, packing, and outbound verification. Every exception, whether a damaged item, incorrect SKU, or return, is inspected and logged so trends can be addressed quickly.
How do you manage inventory and ensure accurate tracking of parts?
We track parts through a secure online portal that shows real-time inventory, shipment status, and KPI reporting. Scanning and system checks maintain accuracy at every step, giving you complete visibility across the supply chain.

eCommerce and Marketplace Integrations

Does Legacy enable me to track my eCommerce inventory, regardless of which marketplace I choose to sell through?
Yes. Our secure web portal makes it easy for clients to view their inventory levels, as well as monitor the status of open shipments, modify orders, access KPI reports and more — all in real time.
How does Legacy handle marketplace integrations?
We combine white-glove, customized service with standardized, repeatable processes and technology — including our proprietary EDI platform, APIs, Microsoft Logic Apps and file transfers — to provide seamless integration with any online marketplace of your choosing.
How does Legacy handle cart integrations?
Cart integrations follow the same structure as marketplace onboarding: API connections, EDI mapping, Logic Apps workflows, and secure file transfers. We adapt the tech stack to provide seamless integration with any eCommerce platform of your choosing.
Can you automate the fulfillment process for my eCommerce orders?

Yes. Using integrated technology and automations, including 6 River Systems collaborative robots (cobots), we’re able to automate much of the eCommerce fulfillment process for maximum efficiency and repeatability, as well as lower supply chain operating costs.

How can outsourced kitting and assembly save my company time and money?

Kitting and assembly demand space, labor, and experience that many eCommerce teams struggle to maintain. By outsourcing, you gain access to trained operators, automation-enabled workflows, and a nationwide facility network that can scale quickly. This reduces handling costs, speeds up order-ready inventory, and frees your team to focus on sales and product development.

What is the difference between kitting and bundling?
The terms “kitting” and “bundling” are essentially synonymous and can be used interchangeably. Both terms refer to the process of packaging multiple child components together to create a single SKU.
Do you also manage returns for pick and pack orders?

Yes. We process returns for all fulfillment models, including pick and pack. Returned items go through the same structured verification, quality check, and routing steps to keep inventory accurate and workflows consistent.

What subscription box fulfillment models do you support?

We support curated subscription boxes, replenishment programs, and subscribe-and-save models. Standardized workflows and automation help us fulfill subscription boxes accurately and at scale, even when product assortments change month to month.

Returns and Reverse Logistics

What qualifies Legacy to handle high-volume returns?

A nationwide warehouse network, Tier-1 WMS, trained returns teams, and automation-enabled workflows allow us to process large volumes without slowing daily operations. We adjust labor and space quickly, maintain accurate disposition data, and minimize cost while keeping cycle times tight.

How quickly can you process returns?
Most programs follow a 72-hour disposition standard, though we can accelerate or adjust that timeline based on your requirements.
What does your standard returns process look like?
Returns follow a structured, item-level workflow. Each arrival is matched to the authorization record, inspected for condition, and classified as restockable or non-restockable. Restockable items are entered back into inventory and staged for putaway, while non-restockable items are routed for repair, recycling, or disposal according to your program rules.
How do you manage returns?
We manage returns by validating each item, completing a quality check, and routing it through your approved process—restock, refurbish, or disposal. Reverse-logistics workflows are customized so your products move back into inventory or into the proper disposition path without delay.
What are your capabilities for handling returns and reverse logistics?

We manage returns from end to end, including receiving, inspection, repackaging, refurbishment, and disposition. Our systems process items quickly so inventory stays accurate and products re-enter sellable stock with minimal delay.

How do you support load tracing and shipment visibility?

Shipment visibility comes from our integrated transportation technology, which captures live ELD updates and feeds them through EDI connections into a single view. Our team watches those movements closely and contacts carriers the moment timing or routing shifts. The customer portal complements that oversight by giving you direct access to shipment status, scheduling, routing choices, invoice details, and LTL rate shopping.

What is Legacy’s process for carrier selection and qualification?
We work with more than 20,000 vetted carriers across local, regional, national, and cross-border lanes. That range lets us match each shipment with the right balance of cost, service, and equipment. Each carrier is thoroughly vetted using performance, safety, and compliance data.
